Minister Gigaba and Eskom's Dames tour Kendal and Duvha Power stations in Mpumalanga
The Minister of Public Enterprises, Mr Malusi Gigaba together with Eskom Group CE, Mr Brian Dames are today making progress visits to Kendal and Duvha Power Stations in Mpumalanga. The tour is to monitor the progress made hitherto, since experiencing challenges last week during the declaration of power emergency.
On Thursday last week, Eskom declared a power emergency between 06h00 until 22h00, which resulted in rotational load-shedding around the country to avoid a total collapse of the system.
Amongst the reasons for the emergency power, Eskom had lost three units at Kendal Power station on the 6th of March 2014 due to wet coal.
At Duvha, power output had also been reduced due to the reconstruction of its coal conveyor belts following a fire in December 2013.
Minister Gigaba and Mr Dames will get progress reports on the measures taken to avoid similar incidents at the stations.
