Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane extends condolences on the death of former High Commissioner to Namibia, Mr Curtis Nkondo

International Relations and Cooperation Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, today, Friday, 4 December 2009 extended deepest condolences following the passing on of the former High Commissioner to Namibia and African National Congress (ANC) struggle veteran Mr Curtis Nkondo on 3 December 2009 at Bedford Life Gardens Clinic in Gauteng.

Minister Nkoana-Mashabane said, “On behalf of government and the diplomatic community I wish to express our heartfelt condolences to the family of Nkondo during these trying moments. Our thoughts and prayers go out to them.”

Mr Curtis Nkondo contributed enormously to the development of South Africa and the African continent through his involvement in the struggle against apartheid and the democratisation and the reconstruction of the country. Mr Nkondo was accredited as the High Commissioner to the Republic of Namibia on 19 July 2000.

At the time of his death Mr Nkondo served in trusts and committees such as Soweto Education Co-ordinating Committee, English Language Teaching Information Centre and Provincial Disciplinary Committee of the ANC. He was granted the Honorary Life Membership of South African Democratic Teacher’s Union (SADTU).
