In a frank and cordial meeting on 1 February 2010, Minister of Arts and
Culture, Lulu Xingwana, praised her outgoing 2010 World Cup task team for their work.
Minister Xingwana thanked the 2010 World Cup task team for “a job well done” especially for their preparatory work for the final draw in December in Cape Town which helped to make the arts and culture component of the event a resounding success.
Minister Xingwana also praised the task team for their sterling work in helping to evaluate project proposals which the Department of Arts and Culture had received for 2010 arts and culture programmes.
Task team members thanked Minister Xingwana for the opportunity to serve the country in this way and indicated that working through proposals was a massive undertaking.
Minister Xingwana indicated that she would call upon individuals in the task team as and when the need arises to work on specific tasks leading up to the World Cup and beyond.
Members of the task team had been appointed for the period August to December 2009 which was further extended to the end of January 2010 to enable them to wrap up their work.
In conclusion, Minister Xingwana said, “The Department of Arts and Culture is committed to achieving the goal of arts for all. Our primary work is aimed at providing opportunities so that the masses of our people can experience the rich and vibrant art of our country and our continent and participate in building a people’s culture.”
Projects are being finalised and the results of the funding applications will be made known to the applicants as soon as possible.
