Minister Sisulu calls on private companies to prioritise education
The Minister for Public Service and Administration, Lindiwe Sisulu called on all South African based companies to prioritise education and development of community infrastructure to propel South Africa to the third decade of democracy.
The Minister added that South Africa of today is way better than that of pre 1994 and all communities must celebrate this achievement. “What I see here at Uthando Primary school and the beautiful roads we used to come here are a testimony that we have moved forward as a nation, we must never forget this, let’s celebrate our achievements”, said Sisulu.
Minister Sisulu said this at the handing over of five newly built classrooms owing to her promise she made in 2012 to assist in building extra classrooms for learners of Uthando Primary School. “We come here to fulfil our pledge after the School Principal made a request that we build additional classrooms. We have been pleased to avail ourselves to this noble cause that will assist in the education of the African child”, said Sisulu.
The building classrooms have been made possible by the assistance of Kansai Plascon which contributed more than R1million towards the project.
In the course of the construction of the classrooms 13 local jobs were created. Some of the local labours have since been absorbed permanently by Rock Construction. Extending a lifeline to households will now have access to income. “This is a reflection of our commitment to eradicate income inequality in South Africa. A request for better educational facilities has resulted in the creation of sustainable jobs for the community and access to improved quality of education for our children”, added Sisulu.
.
Minister Sisulu also dedicated the new building to the late apartheid activist, Victoria Mxenge who together with his late husband, Griffiths Mxenge endured many detentions. “We hope that in this school and in these new classes we will produce our own Victoria Mxenge in years to come”, said Sisulu.
“Through these classes we wish to give hope to our students especially the girl child that she too can become a better person. These classes will shield them from the harsh rains and other elements. These classes must provide them with conducive conditions necessary to focus on their studies” concluded Sisulu.
