Minister Leon Schreiber opens Home Affairs offices in Riversdale and Mossel Bay

Minister Schreiber brings Home Affairs closer to communities with new Riversdale and Mossel Bay offices

The Minister of Home Affairs, Dr Leon Schreiber, officially opened two Home Affairs offices today in the Western Cape, one in Riversdale and the other in Mossel Bay, marking another milestone in the Department’s Home Affairs @ home reform programme to fundamentally transform access to essential civic services.

In a historic first, Riversdale now has its own permanent Home Affairs office, bringing an end to the need for residents to travel great distances to access essential services.

In Mossel Bay, the Department has relocated its existing office to larger premises within the municipal Thusong Centre, providing a more spacious, modern and dignified environment for clients and officials. The upgraded office will improve access to Home Affairs services for residents of Mossel Bay and surrounding communities.

These openings form part of the Department’s rapidly expanding national service delivery footprint, which now includes 700 participating bank branches, bringing access to Home Affairs services to more than 1,000 locations nationwide.

Minister Schreiber said: “The opening of these offices demonstrates what Home Affairs @ home means in practice. For the first time, Riversdale residents have a permanent Home Affairs office in their community, while Mossel Bay now benefits from more modern and dignified facilities. Residents of Riversdale and Mossel Bay also already have access to Smart ID services through participating Standard Bank and Capitec branches.

But our vision goes far beyond opening more offices. With 700 bank branches added to create more than 1,000 service points nationwide, we are fundamentally transforming how South Africans access Home Affairs services by using technology to eliminate unnecessary queues and paperwork, and building a fundamentally different Home Affairs that works for everyone.”
