Transport Minister Congratulates ATNS for providing modern Aeronautical Solutions to the Namibia Civil Aviation Authority

The Minister of Transport, Mr Joe Maswanganyi, congratulates Air Traffic and Navigation Services SOC Limited (ATNS), a Department of Transport state-owned entity, for implementing a modern Aeronautical Information Management (AIM) solution for Namibia Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).

“ATNS has been a major role player in African and global aviation space and continues to be rated among the best Air Navigation Services Providers globally” says Minister Maswanganyi.

The Centralised Aeronautical Database, (A-CAD) would now allow Namibia Civil Aviation Authority and other aviation entities in Africa to access state-of-the-art automated Aeronautical Information Management (AIM) functionality in line with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) transition roadmap.

To satisfy new requirements arising from the Global Air Traffic Management Operational Concept, Aeronautical Information Services (AIS) must transition to a broader concept of Aeronautical Information Management (AIM).
Minister Maswanganyi said that for Africa to maximise its aviation capabilities, it must modernise its aviation capabilities and technology in order to be compatible with other Continents.

“The traditional product centric provision of Aeronautical Information requires replacement by a data centric and systems oriented solution, one in which timely and  can assure quality data permanently and dynamically for use in applications that perform the required tasks, such flight planning, pilot briefing, flight management and navigation, added Minister Maswanganyi.

Recently, a historic milestone was achieved on the A-CAD system with the Namibia Civil Aviation Authority going live on the Flight Plan, Briefing and NOTAM functions in Namibia.

“This is a good example of a successful regional cooperation in order achieve some of the outcomes of the ICAO objective of Global Interoperable Systems, “said Minister Maswanganyi.
