Minister of Home Affairs Naledi Pandor congratulates Sello Mmakau on being named the Visionary Chief Information Officer (CIO) for 2012 in Johannesburg today

Minister of Home Affairs, Naledi Pandor has extended her warm congratulations to Sello Mmakau, the Home Affairs Deputy Director-General for Information Services, who today, Thursday 8 November 2012, was named the Visionary CIO for 2012 in Johannesburg.

The announcement was made by the Computer Society of SA President’s Awards at a breakfast show held at Monte Casino in Fourways, Johannesburg. In this regard, Mmakau was named as the Visionary CIO for 2012 in a category that “recognises an executive who has demonstrated vision and leadership in using technology to support and grow business”.

In this regard, Minister Pandor said “the naming of Sello Mmakau as the Visionary CIO for 2012 is indeed an important recognition of his contribution to the overall government objective to fundamentally transform  the Department of Home Affairs to respond to the needs of all our people” said Minister Pandor

“It is indeed largely due to his contribution that the Department of Home Affairs introduced the Online fingerprint verification system partnering the South African Banking Risk Centre, the piloting of the new Smart ID Card and the IT Modernisation Project which will help reduce the time taken to produce enabling documents such as ID’s and  passports” continued Minister Pandor

“May I extend on behalf of the government, the ministry of Home Affairs and indeed on my own behalf, extend my warm congratulations to Sello Mmakau on being named the Visionary CIO for 2012 convinced that this will be emulated by officials in other sectors of the government” concluded Minister Pandor.
