The Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie extends his condolences and sympathies to the family, friends, associates, and many lifelong fans of the multitalented, Timmy Kwebulana, who passed away on Thursday after a brief illness at the age of 83.
The actor brought life and passion to the screen in multiple roles, notably for Abakwazidenge, Ingqumbo Yeminyanya, Unyana Womntu, Uthando Lwethu, Shooting Stars, Forced Love and Isikizi.
South Africans will still have a chance to see him again in his swansong in an upcoming feature film, Homecoming, due out next month. The feature film tells the touching story of a pair of sisters from a rural village trying to make it in the big city, with their father played by Kwebulana in the role of ‘Tat Nkomo’.
Minister McKenzie paid tribute to the creative genius of Kwebulana by recognising his gift for local storytelling, in particular.
“He was an icon in both film and theatre productions that celebrated South African culture and language. The late Timmy Kwebulana will always be remembered for his contribution to the local cinema industry. He was in a period of nurturing and grooming wonderful young talents, and he will be sorely missed,” said the Minister.
