Minister of Energy, Ms Dipuo Peters is in New Delhi to participate in the Fourth Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM4) meeting, hosted by the Government of India in New Delhi from 16 – 18 April 2013.
The Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) is a high level forum comprised of large energy consuming countries to promote policies and programs that advance energy technologies based on common interest of participating governments and other stakeholders. The current meeting in India offers an opportunity to assess progress since the last CEM that was held in London, United Kingdom in 2012.
Ministers from the 20 participating countries are gathering to discuss progress made by the Clean Energy Ministerial, including:
- 13 clean energy initiatives,
- explore ways to enhance collaboration between participating government, and;
- development strategies to drive public-private engagement to support clean energy deployment.
CEM4 includes plenary sessions for Ministers and provide opportunities for public-private engagements through high-level roundtable dialogues addressing key energy policy questions.
The Minister of Energy will also participate in the C3E (Woman in Clean Energy) side event that is scheduled for 16 April 2013 prior to the CEM4 event. Minister Peters will deliver the Key Note address at this event.
Further to this, the Minister will participate in two Public-Private Roundtables on the 17th of April 2013:
- • Roundtable 3: Power Markets in Emerging economist;
- • Roundtable 4: Renewable Policy and Finance.

Background information on CEM
The first Clean Energy Ministerial was launched on 17 – 20 July 2010 in Washington, D.C, comprised of the 20 largest energy consuming countries globally.
South Africa endorsed several initiatives in line with its objectives on energy security and emission reduction targets.
The participating governments include: Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, the European Commission, Finland, France, German, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Korea, Mexico, Norway, Russia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, the United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and United Stated.
