The Minister of Energy, Ms Dipuo Peters expressed shock at the unacceptable level of illegal connections in and around Cape Town. This follows her visit to ward 41 at Tambo Square in Gugulethu today. Ms Peters witnessed the illegal connections where residents were openly disregarding the law. She has now called for an inquiry into these rampant illegal connections.
During her visits to the communities, the Minister was briefed about the actions of a woman who appears in a DA election television advert, as allegations have now surfaced that she is one of many residents who has an illegal connection in her home. Peters hopes that the DA will join the rest of government in condemning these acts of lawlessness and not exploit the poor who yearn to acquire such services.
Ms Peters appeals to residents to refrain from such criminal activities as steps will be taken against those who continue to connect electricity to their households illegally.
