Minister Dlamini Zuma conveys condolences to families of ZCC members killed travelling from Zimbabwe

Home Affairs Minister Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma today Monday 7 November 2011 joined the people of our country in extending her heartfelt condolences to family members of the seven (7) members of the Zionist Christian Church (ZCC) who perished returning from Zimbabwe early this morning in Limpopo.

Home Affairs officials facilitated the smooth and expeditious movement of over 70 000 members of ZCC led by Bishop Barnabas Lekganyane to Zimbabwe for their annual ZCC Prayer Convention which took place in Bulawayo. The facilitation of this movement was done in conjunction with SAPS, SANDF, Customs and SARS.

Speaking in Pretoria, Minister Dlamini Zuma said, “It is indeed a sad moment for those of us at Home Affairs who facilitated the smooth movement of these ZCC members in and out of South Africa for their prayer session in Zimbabwe.”

“We can only imagine the pain and sorrow that death has brought to bear on the families of those who perished in this accident. Yet we express the hope that they can draw inspiration from the knowledge that the nation shares in their bereavement.”

“Our thoughts and prayers during this hour of bereavement reach out to Bishop Barnabas Lekganyane, families who lost their loved ones as well as the entire membership of the ZCC, while wishing those wounded a speedy recovery.”

“At the same time, we take this opportunity to express our appreciation to all the officials from the Department of Home Affairs, SAPS, SANDF, Customs, and SARS who spent their weekend ensuring the passage of travel for all members of the ZCC was smooth and efficient.”

“I am certain that working together we can indeed continue to ensure that travellers through our ports of entry, especially ahead of and during the holiday season, will receive excellent and professional service,” concluded Minister Dlamini Zuma.
