Minister Dlamini Zuma concludes successful European visit ahead of delivery of lecture at the Walter Sisulu University, Eastern Cape

South African Home Affairs Minister, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma is set to return to South Africa on Thursday, 7 October following a successful European visit to France, Italy and Switzerland.

During her visit to Europe, Minister Dlamini Zuma visited France and Italy where she held bilateral discussions with her counterparts regarding broad issues of immigration as part of the review of South African immigration policy.

In this regard, Minister Dlamini Zuma has begun a process nationally of consulting with key stakeholders including Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) and Business Unity South Africa on the immigration policy with a view to separating economic migrants from asylum seekers.

Furthermore, Minister Dlamini Zuma led a senior South African government delegation to the 61st Session of the Executive Committee meeting of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) held in Geneva, Switzerland and will conclude its deliberations on Friday, 8 October.

Minister Dlamini Zuma, presented to the UNHCR a progress report on the process of reviewing immigration policy as well as the recent cabinet decision to document Zimbabweans living in South Africa.

The progress report and decision of cabinet to document Zimbabweans received applauses and praises from the United Nations (UN) High Commissioner for Refugees, Antonio Guterres.

Minister Dlamini Zuma will upon return from Europe proceed to the Eastern Cape where she will deliver a lecture during the 25th Anniversary celebrations of the Walter Sisulu University’s Faculty of Health Sciences scheduled for Friday, 8 October 2010
