Minister Dlamini Zuma appeals for patience following deployment of 350 former SANDF officers to OR Tambo International Airport

Johannesburg - Minister of Home Affairs, Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, today, Wednesday 21 December 2011, appealed to all airline passengers travelling through the OR Tambo International Airport to exercise patience following recent changes in immigration systems at the airport.

The appeal by Minister Dlamini Zuma follows the deployment of 350 former SANDF officers, who successfully assumed their duties as immigration officers for the first time at OR Tambo International Airport, today Wednesday 21 December 2011.

As with all transitional measures, the deployment of the new immigration officers was accompanied by delays in the facilitation of movement of travellers in and out of the country. However, every effort is being made to ensure the system is back to normal as soon as possible.

In this regard, Minister Dlamini Zuma expresses the confidence that with each passing day the efficiency of the new immigration officers will indeed improve. However, this will be accompanied by stringent immigration measures aimed at ensuring the security of our ports of entry.
