The Minister of Social Development Ms Bathabile Dlamini extended congratulations to the matric class of 2010 who received their final matric examinations results this morning.
“Students and parents across South Africa would be glad that the wait for the matric results is finally over. “I would like to congratulate all the students who have worked so hard to achieve their results today. The excellent results highlight not only the matriculants’ determination, but the inspiration and motivation provided by parents and teachers. Passing the matric examinations is an important milestone, and students should be extremely proud of their hard work and should look forward to the future with confidence.
My congratulations also go to matriculants who will be studying towards a degree in social work in the new academic year. I am proud that they have identified social work as a profession of choice and they will be giving back to our communities”, said Minister Dlamini.
Minister Dlamini extended congratulations to parents and paid tribute to the many teachers who have guided the young matriculants throughout their school years.
The minister encouraged the learners who have not done as well as they would have liked not to panic or give up on their dreams, and called on families and friends to give them support and love during this period.
“For those whose results were not as good as expected, do not give up as there many opportunities still available to you. Information, advice and guidance on what to do next is available and I would urge the learners to use these opportunities fully to improve their results.
I also want to encourage the parents to be supportive to their children as parental involvement has long been identified as having a clear and positive relationship to the success of young people with regard to educational performance as well as avoidance of drug and alcohol use, said Minister Dlamini.
The minister also encouraged the matriculants who failed the examinations to seek counseling at the local social development offices where social workers are available to offer free support and professional advice.
