Minister Dipuo Peters sends condolences to families of victims of road crash in KwaZulu-Natal

Transport Minister calls on all motorists to show tolerance and care for one another

The Minister of Transport, Ms Dipuo Peters, expressed her heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and wishes a speedy recovery to those who sustained injuries, following the horrific road crash which occurred yesterday, Saturday 11 October 2014, on Peters road in Ladysmith in Kwazulu-Natal.

A Preliminary report from the Accident and Investigation Unit of the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC), indicates that a minibus allegedly lost control and collided with a truck, which resulted in 10 fatalities and 8 injuries.

"A public road is shared space and should be shared with respect, motorists must therefore abide by all the rules of the road, show tolerance, care for one another and avoid the potential dangers of over-indulgence or losing control of their emotions," said Minister Peters.

"Motorists must drive responsibly and remember that driving under the influence of alcohol or any illegal substances is a crime and take enough rest before embarking on a journey," said Minister Peters.

"Fatal crashes experienced on our roads are avoidable , however due to human behavior we still see other road-users killed on our roads, it is time to put a stop to this horrendous picture of road carnages on our country's roads," said Minister Peters.
