The Minister of Transport, Ms Dipuo Peters, joins South African in paying tribute Ms Yolanda Botha, who served as an ANC Member of Parliament under the Social Development Portfolio Committee and as the ANC Northern Cape Provincial Treasurer.
Ms Botha died at the new Gariep Medi-Clinic in Kimberly on Sunday after having been diagnosed with metastatic melanoma, a skin cancer, which spread to her brain.
Like many of her peers who were affected by the socio-political impact and planning patterns of the apartheid regime, Cde Yolanda sacrificed her time, leisure and family and joined the African National Congress - the ANC Women’s League in particular - to ensure that the majority of our oppressed women realise their democracy.
The Minister pays tribute to this gallant heroine of our revolution, a combatant who was always ready to serve and defend our democracy.
Cde Yolanda epitomised the type of a cadre which our youth and women in general must emulate. She was a dedicated, selfless and combat ready cadre of our people. Her legacy is engraved in the minds and societal fibre of our people and our nation which she served tirelessly and passionately.
Equally, we shall remember her commitment to women and the struggle for a free, non- racial, non-sexist, democratic and prosperous society that we now enjoy.
At this hour of great loss, the Minister’s thoughts are with her family, friends, comrades and the entire ANC family and all those who have been touched by her life.
May her soul rest in peace.
