Minister Dipuo Peters undertakes to take serious steps against those responsible for the fatal crash in Polokwane this morning
The crash between two trucks near Polokwane early this morning in which four police officers lost their lives is yet another case of four precious lives too many lost on our roads.
While facts are still being investigated and forensic experts are also probing deeper what causes of the explosion could be, it remains unacceptable that messages about road safety are not heeded and adhered to by some of our road users.
We cannot apportion blame for what has happened at this stage, safe to raise seriously the matter about how what we transport on our roads must never pose life-threatening potential to all road users. Safe carriage of dangerous material on our roads must at all times be upper most in the minds of those responsible.
“As a Minister of Transport, I wish to extend mine and the government’s condolences to families of those who lost their loved ones in the crash, and to families of our police officers who, because of their commitment to national duty and passion for protection of all our lives, lost their own in the process.
We will do all in our power to get to the bottom of this and will report back to those affected and to our South African public. Those who are found to have acted recklessly and negligently will have to face the full wrath of our laws”. Said Minister Peters
