Speaking at the function, the minister challenged the council to prioritise the elimination of duplication within the three spheres of government and the development of an integrated approach to small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs).
Minister Davies also highlighted the following critical priority issues that the council should pay specific emphasis to:
- access to markets
- the development of entrepreneurial culture and development
- how to eliminate the regulatory burdens
He further mandated the council to look at other effective models that will scale-up the support of the small businesses.
Deputy Minister Maria Ntuli highlighted the concerns and the challenges based on her visit to the provinces.
"There exist a lot of skills shortage and incapacity constraints to enterprise development. Access to finance and non-financial support are the two the biggest that affect our people the most. You need to advise regularly and monitor what is happening on the ground," said Ntuli.
The two day session which was concluded today was convened to map a three year strategic plan for the council in order to effectively advice the minister on issues and activities of SMMEs.
