Minister Davies announces technology awards finalists

The Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr Rob Davies today announced the names of companies, projects and individuals that will vie for top honours in the dti technology awards 2013.

Winners will be announced in a ceremony that will be hosted by the Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) at the iNkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre in Durban on 17 October 2013. The purpose of the dti technology awards is to raise awareness on the benefits of using technology to improve the competitiveness of enterprises.

The awards recognise individuals and organisations that contributed towards technology development and innovation in South Africa. They are also aimed at inspiring and encouraging creativity and technological innovativeness amongst business people by rewarding those that make use of technology to advance their business.

“By virtue of being selected as finalists, and getting an opportunity to be part of the awards ceremony that will be attended by about 400 guests in Durban, all the projects and individuals are already winners. Their contribution in the world of innovation and technology will be acknowledged, celebrated and recognised beyond Durban. They will inspire their peers and many young people who will view their impressive technological inventions at the exhibition,” said Minister Davies.

The finalists, all of whom have been supported by the dti’s three technology programmes, namely Support Programme for Industrial Innovation (SPII) managed by the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), Technology and Human Resources for Industry Programme (THRIP), managed by the National Research Foundation (NRF), and the Seda Technology Programme (STP) managed by the Small Enterprise Development Agency (SEDA).
