‘We are going watch this case closely,’ says Minister Robin Carlisle, the Minister for Transport and Public Works in the Western Cape has sent his condolences to the family of 84 year old Sylvia Montanus, her 61 year old daughter Cecilia and grandson, 34 year old Shane.
‘Losing members of three generations in a car crash while driving home on a Saturday night is a massive tragedy that most probably could have been avoided through safe driving.
‘I would like to assure the Montanus family that if the driver of the Yaris is charged and found guilty of drunk, negligent and/or reckless driving then my department will certainly be giving evidence in aggravation before sentencing.’
‘I am sick and tired of slaps on the wrist for those who kill innocent people on our roads. If anyone is found guilty of a driving offence, particularly drunk driving, then we are going to motivate to the court why that person should be given the harshest possible sentence.’
