Minister Carlisle announces three-hour closure of Tradouw Pass for cycle challenge

Robin Carlisle, the Minister for Transport and Public Works in the Western Cape has announced the three-hour closure of Tradouw Pass tomorrow, Saturday 26 November 2011.

The department issued a permit to the organisers of the Double Century Cycle Challenge allowing for the closure of the road from 6 to 9am on Saturday.

‘The race starts in Swellendam tomorrow morning and more than a thousand cyclists will still be grouped by the time they reach Tradouw Pass.

‘Emergency vehicles will however be allowed to traverse the Pass.

‘A total of 200 teams, each with 12 cyclists, are taking part in the 202km event, which also ends in Swellendam.

‘I would like to appeal to motorists using the R324, through Suurbraak and over Tradouw Pass towards Barrydale, the R62 and the R317 to drive particularly carefully on Saturday.’
