Minister of Higher Education, Science And Technology’s statement on the passing of Hunadi Magongoa

The Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Dr Blade Nzimande, conveys his deepest condolences to the family, friends and students of the Sefako
Makgatho Health Sciences University, on the passing of Hunadi Magongoa, a medical student at the university.

Hunadi passed away overnight on 1 September 2019, allegedly after consuming foodfrom the University Student Cafeteria on Friday, 30 August 2019.

Minister Nzimande has appealed to the university’s management to expedite its investigations into the cause of Hunadi’s death.

“Whilst the university is yet to conclude its report, I appeal for calm and for all stakeholders to allow this investigation to conclude”, said Minister Nzimande.
Minister Nzimande expects the Council of the University to submit the consolidated report before the end of this week.

The Minister, through the university branch of the Department of Higher Education and Training, will monitor the developments closer.

Minister Nzimande reiterated government’s commitment to stop at nothing to provide a conducive learning environment that promotes access and success.
