On 1 December 2009, Ms Nelisiwe Magubane was appointed as the Director-General of the Department of Energy on a five year contract, expiring on the 30 November 2014. Due to health reasons which lately have proven to be an impediment in the execution of some of her duties, the Director-General and I have agreed that her contract of employment be re-determined. Her last day of employment is 31 March 2014.
I would like thank Ms Magubane for her contribution to the Department of Energy and to the people of South Africa. I wish her well. In this regard, I have appointed Mr Tseliso Maqubela (Deputy Director-General: Petroleum and Petroleum Products Regulation) as the acting Director-General until the vacancy is filled.
