Minister of Social Development Bathabile Dlamini to open conference on 20 years of advancing access to safe abortion. Ipas South Africa hereby invites health reporters to attend the opening of the conference on "20 years of advancing access to safe abortion in South Africa Honouring the Past, Treasuring the Present and Shaping the Future".
Minister of Social Development Bathabile Dlamini will deliver the keynote address at the gala dinner that will open the conference on 10 June.
The conference celebrates 20 years of democracy, particularly the adoption of the Choice on Termination of Pregnancy Act (CTOPA) in 1996. It brings together healthcare practitioners and advocates working to advance safe, legal abortion services in South Africa.
The right to available, accessible and affordable abortion services for all women and girls is integral to a comprehensive sexual and reproductive health programme.

- A panel discussion on 11 June 2014 between 08h30 to 10h15 on the policy process leading up to the passing of the CTOPA and reflections on the implementation of the law.
