The Minister for Public Service and Administration Mr Richard Baloyi has reaffirmed government’s resolve to clean out corrupt activities in the public service.
In his address to the National Assembly during question time, the Minister emphasised that the Public Service Anti-Corruption Unit expected to be launched at the end of this month will focus on a coherent approach that embraces elements of prevention, detection and combating of corruption.
The unit is part of the Public Service Anti-Corruption Strategy which amongst other aspects seeks to improve access to report wrong doing as well as to protect whistleblowers and witnesses. The unit will prohibit corrupt activities by individuals and businesses, improve management policies and practices ensure the management of professional ethics, as well as create awareness, educate and train public servants.
Minister Baloyi stressed that the new Unit will not operate in isolation but rather in collaboration with existing institutions such as the Special Investigative Unit (SIU), the Auditor-General, the Public Service Commission and National Treasury.
Earlier, the minister briefed the Portfolio Committee on Public Service and Administration on the Anti-Corruption Strategy.
