Minister of Arts and Culture, Mr Paul Mashatile MP, congratulates South African artists on winning world awards

"Heartiest congratulations to the Handspring Puppeteers Adrian Kohler and Basil Jones for being awarded this year’s prestigious Tony Award for their massively successful play, The War Horse," said Minister Paul Mashatile, upon hearing that they received this award.

This play took Broadway by storm and received rave reviews. It also had a successful run at West End.  "It is certainly a very exciting play which got everyone talking. We look forward to seeing it in South Africa," said Minister Mashatile.

"We congratulate Xoliswa Sithole as well, the only South African British Film and Television Award (BAFTA) winner for the documentary, "The Orphans of Nkandla. Sithole has been nominated in two categories of the BAFTA to be awarded on 22 May," said Minister Mashatile.  This happened immediately after Sithole was announced the winner of the Peabody Award in the United State America (USA). The Peabody Award Ceremony will also take place at the end of May in the USA.

"These artists have done South Africa proud and their recognition will serve as encouragement for artists in the country. South Africa joins the world in saluting these great artists," said Minster Mashatile.
