Motshekga and Makgoe mourn the death of a Grade 12 marker in a car accident.

Free State Education MEC, Dr Tate Makgoe  has learnt with sadness about the passing of a 2022 Grade 12 Physical Science marker, Mr Selwyn Petrus Moos.

He died in a car accident last night while travelling home from a marking centre in Bloemfontein. The accident occurred on the road between Bloemfontein and Jaggersfontein.

Mr Moos (34) taught Mathematics and Physical Science at Jaggersfontein Combined School.

MEC Makgoe expressed his sadness and said the death of a young Mathematics and Physical Science teacher is a big loss to the system.

“At the age of 34, this talented, skilful and energetic teacher still had 31 years before the official retirement age. So we have been robbed kannete,” a visibly shocked Makgoe said.

Basic Education Minister, Mrs Angie Motshekga has also conveyed her condolences to the family and colleagues of the deceased. She added that this was a great loss for the sector.

“Just when we thought marking had proceeded well without any incident, now we receive the shocking news of this horrific accident” the Minister added.

Minister Motshekga  urged all road users to obey the rules of the road and ensure everyone arrives alive.
