Minister for Public Service and Administration, Mr Richard Baloyi, today addressed the 6th National Congress of the Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa (DENOSA) in Bela Bela in Limpopo province.
Speaking at the congress, Minister Baloyi emphasised government’s commitment to the development of the nursing profession and stressed the need for public servants to have certain attributes in order to achieve an efficient and effective public service. “There is a need for a public servant that is ready to break new ground in the delivery of innovative services, and the navigation of the knowledge economics. There is also a need for public servants who see possibilities in all situations, and who do not use policy and resource constraints to not do their work,” the minister said.
Minister Baloyi also reminded delegates that government as an institution and employer has responsibility towards its employees including the need to respect public servants and give them space to deliver and showcase their talent, drawing a balance between value for money and value for labour by ensuring that worthy contributions are rewarded as well as putting an emphasis on performance-based remuneration.
