Dawid Kruiper is the traditional leader and healer of the Khomani San people, hunter-gatherers living in the Kalahari Desert. They are more commonly known as Bushmen. Dawid Kruiper refers to himself as a Bushman, though not all San people are comfortable with the term Bushmen, which was originally applied to them by Europeans.
He is known for the role he played as a tracker in the film “The God’s Must Be Crazy II”, but most notably for an address made in 1994 to the United Nations regarding the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
Oom Dawid Kruiper has fallen ill and is hospitalised at the Gordonia Hospital in Upington. MEC for Social Development Mr. Alvin Botes took time out from the Northern Cape’s ANC Elective conference on Friday afternoon to visit Oom Dawid.
We wish Oom Dawid a speedy recovery so that he can continue the task of leading the Khomani San People. I would also like to extend a message of strength and support to the family of Oom Dawid Kruiper during this period of his illness
