As Minister of Basic Education I would like to wish the class of 2010 all the best as they begin with revision for their final senior certificate examinations. Now is the time for each one of you to apply yourselves to your studies. You must ensure you have a copy of the examination timetable and begin planning a solid revision schedule.
As the time draws closer I encourage you as a learner to make every day count, to set yourself goals and take responsibility for your own learning by pushing yourself to achieve the best you can.
It is essential to start with small goals for the day then for the week. In order to achieve academic success you must work hard at this time, making sure to apply yourself harder in particular to those subjects you face difficulty with.
The Department of Basic Education has made additional study material available on our website http://www.education.gov.za and it is advised you utilise these study aids to go along with your current study material, so as to improve your chances of success.
Considering that there are only a few days until you begin with examinations there is no better time than the present. Ensure that you all form part of a study group in your area or at your school. There is no turning back now, success is knocking at your door and only you have the key to unlocking a prosperous future.
I wish you every success. I trust that you will begin to work hard and make every South African proud by achieving success. I want to remind you that achieving success is less about where you are now and more about what you are doing on a daily basis, to be successful you must work hard and apply yourself every day.
To the class of 2010 I wish every success. The department, your teachers, your parents and your communities are behind you all the way. Go out there and make us all proud. Never forget that luck is preparation meets opportunity!
Good luck and study hard.
