I would like to send a message of condolences on behalf of the people of Limpopo and the African National Congress (ANC) to the Asmal family at this time of lamentation after the loss of a great citizen who was a member of the Asmal family. The loss of one of our stalwarts in the fight for freedom, justice and equality is a loss to the nation that is difficult to fathom.
It comes at time when we are still trying to recover from the lamentable passing away of yet another stalwart of our democratic movement, Mama Albertina Sisulu.
The people of Limpopo share the untimely loss with the Asmal family, for the nation has lost a true servant of the people, a comrade that contributed so much into the South African society during and post apartheid.
Cde Asmal will forever remain in our memories for his tireless efforts to reform education in our country because education has always been central in our struggle for the total liberation of our people. Our people will remember him for his hard work to bring water to the people especially in Limpopo where many rural communities have been struggling with water shortages for many decades under the apartheid rule.
May his soul rest in peace.
