Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Health Dr Bevan Goqwana has welcomed the removal of the East London Hospital Complex CEO Vuyo Mosana.
Recently the Committee visited the East London Hospital Complex and found the complex to be in a state of disarray. The hospital will now be headed by Acting CEO Dr Kobus Kotze.
Dr Goqwana said he hoped Kotze’s expertise as a doctor would turn things around at the hospital. “ We also hope that he will be allowed to carry out his duties without interruptions and get the necessary support.”
The Committee will table a report before the National Assembly on its findings about the East London Hospital Complex when Members of Parliament (MPs) return from recess.
The Chairperson has also urged Eastern Cape Department of Health to thoroughly investigate cases involving the alleged theft of baby formula meant for government hospitals in the province.
“If these allegations are true, the law must take its course,” said Dr Goqwana.
He also said the theft of baby formula impacted badly on the poor communities in the province.
