Following the discovery of medication and consumables in a transit site at Pelonomi hospital during the celebration of International Mandela day on the 18 July 2014. The discovery was made during the cleaning campaign in honour of Nelson Mandela at the hospital by the Honorable Premier and other dignitaries that were part of the programme of the day.
Today, 21 July 2014 MEC of Health Dr. Benny Malakoane, MEC for Public Works and Infrastructure Mr Sam Mashinini met with the hospital management and the organised labour.
The purpose of the meeting was to outline the standard in which the investigation will unfold.
All the parties are in agreement that whoever is responsible for the dumping of medication and consumables must take responsibility and face the consequences. This cannot be tolerated particularly when there has been reported shortages of these items. Both MEC’s Dr. Benny Malakoane and Mr. Sam Mashinini, including all stakeholders are in agreement that stern action must be taken.
An independent investigation team comprising of imminent persons and experts in the health sector will be set up to speedily assist investigation on what exactly happened.
