The Executive Council (EXCO) of the Limpopo Provincial Government held a special meeting yesterday on 7 July 2011. The meeting was held subsequent to President Jacob Zuma’s visit to Limpopo that was designed to enhance the performance monitoring and evaluation of service delivery in the hospitals of the province.
The meeting welcomed the visit by the President of the Republic of South Africa, Mr Jacob Zuma and his delegation. EXCO appreciated that the Presidential visit to the province was a resounding success because it has been able to, among others, draw attention to the importance of ensuring that all hospitals provide quality services to the people of the province.
EXCO also appreciated that the Lebowakgomo district hospital was declared the best public hospital in the Republic of South Africa and committed to replicate this achievement throughout all other hospitals in the province. The challenges confronting Siloam district hospital were acknowledged and consequently EXCO took a decision to build a new hospital to alleviate the plight of patients and health workers at this facility in line with the commitment made by the President.
The meeting mandated the Department of Health and Social Development, the Department of Local Government and Housing and the Department of Public Works to work out a plan to ensure that the construction of the new Siloam district hospital is done in the current financial year.
To enhance effective and efficient service delivery in all the hospitals in the province, the meeting has committed that the Limpopo provincial government will work hard to ensure that all hospitals comply with the diagnostic indicators of a properly functioning hospital in a quest to improve the health profile of the people of the province.
EXCO has mandated the Office of the Premier and the Department of Health and Social Development to develop a schedule of unannounced visit to the hospitals by the members of EXCO to ensure service delivery improvement in line with government’s outcome based approach.
