Media statement: no work, no pay principle applies

The no work, no pay principle will apply as public servants affiliated to the Public Servants Association (PSA) embark on a strike action.

The principle will apply for absence of a full day as well as part of a working day. All deductions made based on absenteeism from work during the strike action will be captured on PERSAL.

In not effecting deductions, government departments will be exposing themselves to the provisions of the Public Finance Management Act, 1999 in respect of fruitless and irregular expenditure.

The Department of Public Service and Administration (DPSA) reiterates that the principle of no work, no pay will be strictly and timeously enforced with deductions effected in the month of the strike action (where possible) and no later than the next month.
