Media statement Limpopo media centre corporate communication South African Police Service

The South African Police Service in Limpopo has noted with serious concern the escalating violence that has erupted in Malamule on Monday morning.

The community, who are demanding their own municipality, gathered along the main streets, and barricaded roads with stones and other objects. They continued to loot local shops. The police will not tolerate any opportunistic behaviour in cases where properties are damaged, people assaulted or any form of intimidation. Police will act decisively and toughly.

Deputy Provincial Commissioner of Operations Major General Berning Ntlemeza has already deployed additional SAPS members to assist the local station, including top-ranking officers to take command and control of police operations.

Ntlemeza has warned that there is no place in Limpopo for indiscriminate acts of public violence and criminality and those found responsible s will most certainly be brought to book.
