Media statement by Human Settlements Minister Connie September on the passing of Anene Booysen’s mother, Corlia Olivier

The Minister for Human Settlements Connie September would like to convey her sincere condolences to the family and the community of Bredasdorp, following the death of Ms Corlia Olivier earlier this week.

Ms Olivier was the mother of the late Anene Booysen who was raped and murdered in Bredasdorp in February last year.

“I personally had the privilege of meeting Ms Olivier when I visited the family last month and laid a wreath on Anene’s grave. I witnessed firsthand Ms Olivier's deteriorating condition but she put up a brave fight till her last.

On this day, we also launched a “Green Door Safe House” for vulnerable people, in particular women and children in honour of Anene Booysen - committing government not to allow her death to be in vain.

Olivier's fighting spirit, despite the many challenges faced in recent times, will not be forgotten. Her memory will live on in the Green Door Safe House which is intended to provide refuge for women in need.

Our thoughts are with her family in these trying times," said Minister Connie September.
