Today, 25th August 2012, both Minister Susan Shabangu and Minister Mildred Oliphant met with the Chamber of Mines and executives of the platinum and gold sector as a follow up on some of the resolution options taken at last Saturday's meeting.
Today's meeting focused and agreed mainly on the creation of mechanisms for a centralised forum to negotiate conditions of employment. This has arisen from the acknowledgement by all stakeholders that the current status quo wherein each company negotiates individually has created opportunity for non-recognised labour structures to make demands outside the agreed and recognised forums.
Executives, through the Chamber of Mines, have been tasked to work on the modalities of how this option will be implemented in the short to long term.
The meeting agreed to continue with its background work and again pledged its cooperation with the Presidential Commission of Enquiry.
