Media statement the Female Entrepreneur of the Year 2010

The MEC for the Free State Department of Agriculture, Ms Mamiki Qabathe, invites project owners and beneficiaries to register for the 2010 Female Entrepreneur of the Year Awards.

Due to the lack of time, potential participants are advised to collect application forms from their local municipalities and nearby offices of the Department of Agriculture. Applications must be made with immediate effect as the closing date is 18 June 2010.

The Female Entrepreneur of the Year Awards was incepted to encourage and increase the participation of women in agricultural activities. The event recognises the efforts and contribution of women in matters of food security through backyard and large-scale production as well as value-chain activities.

Over the years, it became an empowerment platform that recognised the entrepreneurial skills of women in the sector. In some cases, women became a valuable pool for placement and to transform various state owned entities.

This annual event commences at district level and culminates with the national Female Entrepreneur of the Year Awards taking place at the end of the Women’s Month.

This year’s categories are as follows:

* best female worker: farm worker
* best subsistence worker: farmer
* top young entrepreneur: farmer
* top entrepreneur: smallholder: horticulture and crops livestock
* top entrepreneur: commercial: horticulture and crops livestock
* top entrepreneur: export markets: horticulture and crops livestock.
