The Department of Energy herewith informs the public that the prices of petrol 95 Octane, diesel and Illuminating paraffin will decrease with effect from 1 October 2014. However, the price of petrol 93 Octane and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) will increase next month. South Africa’s fuel prices are adjusted on a monthly basis, informed by international and local factors.
The pump price petrol 95 Octane and the wholesale prices of diesel, illuminating paraffin and the maximum retail prices of Illuminating paraffin will decrease, while the price of petrol 93 Octane and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) will increase with effect from the 1 October 2014, The reasons for the fuel price changes are mainly due to (a) the decrease in the price of crude oil which lead to a decrease in the prices of petroleum products (petrol, diesel, Illuminating Paraffin and Liquefied Petroleum Gas) in the international markets; and (b) the depreciation of the Rand against the US Dollar (on average) when compared to the previous period. Furthermore, the slate levy remains unchanged at zero, in line with the self-adjusting slate mechanism.
Based on current local and international factors, the fuel prices for October 2014 in the South African market will be adjusted as follows:
1. Petrol (95 Octane) will decrease by 5.00 cents/litre.
2. Petrol (93 Octane) will increase by 2.00 cents/litre
3. Diesel will decrease by 13.00 cents/ litre
4. Illuminating paraffin (SMNRP) will decrease by 18.00 cents/litre
5. Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) will increase by 12.00 cents/kilogram
The pricing schedule for all the pricing zones will be published on Tuesday, 30 September 2014.
