The Gauteng Department of Health and Social Development is concerned about rising costs of providing security at its facilities in spite of the fact that it has not found irregularities in the process of procuring of security services for all its 34 hospitals in the province.
Before the security firms were engaged, various presentations were made to Chief Executive Officers of hospitals on norms and standards, and terms of reference. Security managers from hospitals and district services were also engaged.
The Department is in a process of negotiating with service providers with service providers with a view to reduce costs, realign with service delivery priorities and also to phase out excess guards. This process started two months ago.
