The Gauteng Department of Health and Social Development has committed itself to fill all vacant funded post for all health professionals by the end of the financial year.

Since 1 April this year employed a total of 182 doctors and 1 848 nurses of all categories to ensure the delivery of quality health care in the province. Additional 40 emergency services workers as well 64 allied medical workers were also employed in the same period.

MEC Mahlangu said the department views this as another measure which will contribute to the reduction of negligence at its hospitals and improve the quality of care.

“We remain committed to fill all vacant posts to ensure that we deliver quality health to the people of the province. We hope that this will also alleviate pressure on health professionals and improve and improve working conditions,” she said.

In addition to advertised posts to be filled there are 710 students nurses completing professional nurse training and 480 completing the enrolled nursing will absorbed by the department in both hospitals and clinics.
