Media statement – passenger injured as truck with hazardus chemicals overturns on N4 outside Brits


A passenger in a truck with hazardous chemicals was slightly injured after the truck overturned on the N4 Bakwena Platinum Highway onMonday morning blocking the flow of traffic for over two hours. The accident occurred around 11:00 am between Bapong Traffic Control Centre and the Brits off ramp in the North West province. 

The driver of the truck which was driving on the yellow-lane allegedly lost control of the vehicle after an overtaking truck hit his side mirror. Both trucks were driving from Rustenburg towards Pretoria. 

The horse of the truck veered to the side road while the trailer jack-knifed in the middle of the road blocking the freeway. One lane was reopened after the calcium was cleared off the road by Madibeng Local Municipality Fire and Emergency Services.  

The passengers was rushed to Brits Provincial hospital to be treated for minor injuries.  

The driver sustained slight scratches.
