Media reports on South Africa-Israel nuclear weapons exchanges

The South African government has noted media reports suggesting that Israel offered to sell the country nuclear weapons in 1975. The response by the Israeli government to such reports has also been noted.

The democratic government in 1994, and subsequently, has repeatedly reaffirmed its commitment to a world free of nuclear weapons. The Republic of South Africa is proud of to have dismantled all its nuclear weapons and is member of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NNPT).

To date, the Republic of South Africa remains the only country in the world to have voluntarily disarmed its nuclear capacity; a move which has earned the country international credibility and respect in terms of nuclear disarmament.
