On Wednesday, 18 May 2011 voters will go to 20 859 voting stations countrywide to cast their vote in the 2011 municipal elections
As was the case with previous elections, the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) will establish results operation centres (ROCs) countrywide with the aim of creating facilities for the media and other stakeholders where they can easily access information on voting and the results.
National Results Operation Centre
The National Results Operation Centre will be in Pretoria in Hall J, Tshwane Events Centre (previously Pretoria International Show Grounds), Soutter Street (off DF Malan Street), Pretoria West.
A pool area will be available to media representatives who did not book offices. The pool area will be equipped with computers, printing facilities, telephones and faxes. Except for the use of the telephones and faxes, these facilities will be available free of charge.
Media representatives in the centre will have access to reports on the elections results system. Training will be given on the use of the system on dates still to be confirmed.
Computers linked to the results system will not have access to the internet. An Internet Café will be available for that purpose. Visitors will also be able to use their 3G cards.
Accreditation for the National Results Operation Centre (ROC) in Pretoria is compulsory.
Requirements for accreditation include the following:
- completed accreditation form (attached)
- digital photograph clearly marked with the name and ID number of the holder
- the photograph must be passport size in jpeg or mpeg format.
