North West MEC for Public Safety, Howard Yawa appeals to all general roads users in and around Mafikeng, along the Mafikeng-Vryburg, Ventersdorp through Bessiesvlei to Vryburg and Vryburg-Kuruman roads to give way to convoys of armies of Southern African Development Community (SADC) countries that are to pass through the respective areas as from Sunday, 30 August 2009.
The armies from Tanzania, Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia and Botswana are expected to pass through Ramatlabama border post, while Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Malawi are expected to enter the country through Beit Bridge on their way to Luhatla training centre in Kuruman for Golfino joint forces military training exercise. Each troop will be transported in convoys made of more than 20 vehicles at respective timeframes during the next two weeks.
MEC Yawa urges all affected parties to exercise patience and in particular motorists who will be travelling along the identified routes to the used by the armies during the period to observe safe following distances during this expedition until Wednesday, 9 September 2009.
The Border Control Operational Coordinating Committee has developed a plan in consultation with all relevant stakeholders at the port of entries to assist the immigration and custom processes in order to avoid congestion at the border posts during the period.
