North West MEC for Public Safety, Howard Yawa has on Monday commissioned for a report on the tender awarded by the former provincial Department of Transport, Road and Community Safety on the operation of Potchefstroom Weighbridge.
The comprehensive report which is expected to be completed in the next two weeks is among other expected to provide the MEC with clarity pertaining to the following:
- tender advertisement, evaluation and adjudication criterion followed towards awarding of the tender
- set up costs paid
- functionality of the weighbridge
- infrastructure maintenance and upgrading
- how much the department has been spend on the contract to date and what value was derived from the expenditure.
Upon receiving the report, the MEC will brief the Premier, Executive Council, Portfolio Committee on Public Safety in the North West Provincial Legislature and the media on his recommendations, proposed action to redress the situation and the need for any further investigations.
The process is expected to be completed within the next 14 days.
Though the MEC Yawa views allegations of fruitful and wasteful expenditure in a serious light, he appeals for the process to be given an opportunity to unfold without aspersions being cast on the integrity of the tender process.
Yawa has vowed that should there be any wrong doing on the part of anyone, decisive action will need to be taken in the interest of clean governance.
