North West MEC for Public Safety, Howard Yawa has expressed grief as he mourns the death of a provincial traffic officer who was certified dead on admission at Fern Crest Hospital on Wednesday afternoon. The officer in his mid-forties was rushed to hospital by paramedics after he allegedly shot himself in the mouth with a service firearm after a family squabble at the official residences of Public Safety Rustenburg Sub-District.
MEC Yawa has on behalf of his department expressed heartfelt condolences to the family, colleagues and friends of Johan Du Preez who was based at the provincial traffic Rustenburg Sub-District Office. Police are investigating circumstances that led to Du Preez's death.
"We encourage members to come forward for counseling and support whenever they experience situations that put them under extreme pressure either in their private lives or at work," says MEC Yawa.
