MEC Yawa leads Mandela Day build up activity in Letlhabile

North West MEC for Public Safety, Howard Yawa is to lead a public private partnership (PPP) mobilised for active community service in Madibeng local municipality on Saturday as part of Mandela week build up activity to celebrate former President Dr Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela's 92nd birthday and 67 years of community service.

The joint programme for the partnership of the North West Department of Public Safety and Madibeng local municipality includes cleaning and painting of Letlhabile police station outside Brits and distribution of food parcels to the aged and child headed households.

"The Mandela Day initiative has spurred all sections of our communities to take forward the legacy of humility and selflessness that Madiba as our icon espoused and personified in pursuit of freedom, equality, unity and a better life for all.

"The phenomenal response we have received from the crime prevention structures within our communities and the business sector to the call to render community service will boost the morale of our police in the war against crime," says MEC Yawa.

The initiative is supported and co-sponsored by Business Against Crime North West, Pretoria Portland Cement (PPC), Builders Warehouse in Rustenburg, Vital Signs in Mafikeng, Mather Dangor Financial Services, Xstrata Eland Platinum Mine and involves councilors from Madibeng local municipality, officials of the provincial Department of Public Safety, members of the South African Police Service (SAPS), provincial Community Policing Board, Cluster Policing Board and Letlhabile Community Policing Forum and Ward committee members.
