While acknowledging that dysfunctional Community Policing Forums (CPFs) are the weakest link in the chain of the war against crime, North West MEC for Public Safety, Howard Yawa, in his presentation of the 2009/10 Departmental Policy Statement and Budget Speech on Friday cautioned against inclusion of criminals in the structures during their re-launch.
"Though we have prioritised the re-launch of dysfunctional CPFs, in our haste to revitalise the structures, we should make certain that criminals are not imbedded in these structures. There should be no place in these structures for those who hunt with the hounds and run with the hares," said MEC Yawa.
"The battle lines are drawn, a friend to a criminal cannot be a friend to a law abiding citizen. The war against crime starts with defining relationships with those around us. A policeman who associates with criminals' compromises our national efforts to win the war against crime," Yawa emphasised.
